KEEP YOUR EXPECTATION ALIVE
Jan 26, 2012
On Thursday, 19 January 2012, Pastor Valentino Gomes encouraged and taught us about the importance of keeping our expectation alive. It is important that we expect. What we receive, depends on what we expect. And God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us (Eph 3:20). The bible also says that the hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. As we are made righteous through Christ Jesus we can hope and be glad because all God’s promises are ‘yes’ in Jesus! We can be confident as God says -For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).
Pastor Val explained how expectation in the natural sense comes from what we see, hear and understand. But he emphasized that we cannot limit our expectation on our natural knowledge which feeds from the natural senses, and it is so important to align our thinking to the Word of God. We need to have faith in God and His Word. Some of the questions that Pastor Val explained were
- • What is expectation?
- • How does expectation come ?
- • Why do we need to expect ?
- • Why does the enemy want our expectation to be crushed ?
- • How can we get our expectation restored ?
- • What happens when our expectations are fulfilled ?
- • Where does our expectation get fulfilled ?
Expectation has deep yet simple connotation. It is as simple as a child trusting the parent to do what is been promised and yet be very persistent and not deter till the expectation is fulfilled. The enemy, the devil, always tries to cut out all the sources that makes us expect the fulfillment of God’s promises. It could be through sin, challenges, pressure, demonic oppression, anxiety, pain etc. The devil’s main intention is to crush our expectation. He looks to steal, kill and destroy our ‘RPJ’ (Righteousness, Peace and Joy). But we need to stand in faith and not give up. God is looking down to bless us with abundant life and we need to learn to look up to Him always. For scripture says that God has good thoughts towards us, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give us an expected end. We should continue to hold on and be excited that God’s promises will be fulfilled. And remember - the place that our expectation’s will be fulfilled, will be in the house of God.
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
(Psalms 62:5-7)
